Mauao, Mount Maunganui or “The Mount” as its more commonly known by locals, is considered as both important and tapu (sacred) by local Māori iwi . It is one of the first sights you will see you upon entering the Port of Tauranga. The beautiful Main Beach here has been awarded the ‘Best Beach in New Zealand’ by TripAdvisor, and ranks itself amongst the top 25 best beaches in the world.
Tauranga’s city waterfront is known locally as The Strand and features a wide range of bars and restaurants. These cater for a range of tastes including fine dining and international cuisine is served alongside bar snacks and tempting, tapas platters.
Both locations have a wide range of shops selling art, giftware, local crafts, designer labels and much more. The Mount and Tauranga are also very popular holiday destinations for New Zealanders as well as international visitors. Tauranga is also one of New Zealand’s fastest growing cities with a population of approximately 111,000 people.
